months, and years, but the data key uniquely identifi es each record. In this case the date
key could be the concatenation of month, day, and year.

If you do not create dimensions during the Cube Wizard process, you can manually create
them independent of the cube. Before creating additional dimensions, be sure to add the
tables required to build the dimension to the data source view. When all the required tables
are in the DSV, right-click the Dimensions folder in the Solution Explorer, and select New
Dimension to launch the Dimension Wizard.

■ Select Creation Method: Click next to go past the welcome page, and select the Use
an Existing Table option.
■ Specify Source Information: Select the DSV that holds the source data, pick the
primary table for the dimension, and set the key columns and the name column.
■ Select Dimension Attributes: Select each attribute of the dimension by checking
the box to the left of the column name.
■ Completing the Wizard: Review and name the new dimension.
To modify an existing dimension, double-click it from inside the Solution Explorer. A win-
dow with several tabs and three panes labeled Attributes, Hierarchies, and Data Source
View appear, as shown in Figure 53-5. The data source view displays all tables associated
with the dimension. You can see additional tables by right-clicking in the blank area of
this pane, choosing Show Tables, and selecting the tables to add.
