■ (^) Query events: These events notify the developer or administrator that query steps
are taking place, for example, query begin, query end.

and run by the query and storage engines
The following steps detail how to perform a SQL Server Profi ler trace of Analysis Services:

  1. From the Start menu, select All Programs ➪ Microsoft SQL Server
2012 ➪ Performance Tools ➪ SQL Server Profi ler.

  2. On SQL Server Profi ler menu, select File ➪ New Trace or press Ctrl-N.

  3. Within the Connect to Server dialog, provide the Server type of Analysis Services,
and provide the wanted Server name for the server/instance that is to be traced.

  4. In the Trace Properties dialog, on the General tab, confi gure the name of the trace
and provide destination (fi le or table) and duration information. Only locations
specifi ed in the server property AllowedBrowsingFoldersare allowed to be
    used.

  5. In the Trace Properties dialog, on the Events Selection tab, check off the wanted
events to be captured as part of the trace. For user queries it is best to capture
the Audit Login event class, the Query Begin event class, and the Query End event
class, as shown in Figure 54-7.
