Mining Models
The Mining Models view of the Data Mining Designer enables you to confi gure different
data mining algorithms on the data defi ned by the mining structure. Add new models by
right-clicking in the structure/model matrix and selecting New Mining Model, as shown in
Figure 57-1.

Depending on the structure defi nition, not all algorithms are available — for example, the
Sequence Clustering algorithm requires that a Key Sequence column be defi ned, whereas
the Time Series algorithm requires a Key Time column to be defi ned. In addition, not every
algorithm uses each column in the same way — for example some algorithms ignore con-
tinuous input columns.
SQL Server 2012 enables you to place fi lters on models, which can be useful when training
models specifi c to a subset of the source data. For example, you can target different cus-
tomer groups by training fi ltered models in a single mining structure. Right-click a model,
and choose Set Model Filter to apply a fi lter to a model. When set, you can see the current
fi lter in the model’s properties.
