New Document drop-down menu options.
- From the list select the Report Data Source option. The data source properties
screen opens. - Type a name for the shared data source fi le, for example AWPowerPivotDS.
- From the Data Source Type drop-down list, select Microsoft BI Semantic Model for
Power View. - In the Connection String textbox, type the URL to the PowerPivot workbook.
For example: Data Source=http://sql2012rtm/PowerPivot%20Gallery/
AWPowerPivot.xlsx. - Click the Test Connection button. You should see a message in green below the Test
Connection button displaying the message: Connection String Created Successfully.
Figure 59-3 shows the data source properties screen with the entries used for this
example. - Click OK. The Report Data Source fi le is created.
- To launch Power View using the newly created Report Data Source fi le, click the
fi le’s drop-down menu options, and select Create Power View Report.
The next section walks you through the steps to create BI Semantic Model Connection fi les
based on a PowerPivot workbook and an Analysis Services Tabular Model database.
