Part V: Enterprise Data Management

Select the scheduling requirements for the task. For example, you can set a task to run
daily, weekly, or monthly. The dialog box also enables you to select a specifi c starting time
for the task and determine when the scheduling begins and ends. The one form of schedul-
ing that this dialog box doesn’t provide is on demand. To set the maintenance task to run
on demand, uncheck the enabled box and click OK to save the changes.

Defi ne a schedule that meets the task requirements; use off-hours scheduling for tasks that
require many resources.

Creating New Connections
Depending on your database setup, you might need to create multiple connections to per-
form a particular task. The Maintenance Plan always provides a connection to the default
instance of the local database.

  1. Click Manage Connections to add more connections to the current maintenance
plan. (Any additions won’t affect other maintenance plans you create.) You see the
Manage Connections dialog box, as shown in Figure 22-7.

  2. Click Add in the Manage Connections dialog box to add a new connection. You see
a New Connection dialog box. A connection consists of three elements: connection
name, server name, and server security.
