if you want to use distributed transactions with SQL Server, you need MSDTC installed.
There are two ways to confi gure MSDTC. Refer to http://blogs.msdn.com/b
/cindygross/archive/2009/02/22/how-to-configure-dtc-for-sql-server-
in-a-windows-2008-cluster.aspx for a complete reference on how to confi gure
MSDTC for SQL Server in a Windows 2008/2008R2 cluster and the pros and cons of each
method. It is recommended to have a clustered version of MSDTC with each SQL Server
instance. This means you must install and confi gure it after the SQL Server installation
completes. Figure 29-8 shows the Setup Support Rules screen with MSDTC warnings.

- Click Next. The Feature Selection screen opens. In this screen you select the SQL
Server 2012 features you want to install. Only the Database Engine Services and
Analysis Services features support failover clustering. The other features are
standalone and therefore run only on the current node. Select the features to
install. The shared features install directory should not be on a clustered drive.
Install the shared features to a drive that will not be included in the cluster.
