Part V: Enterprise Data Management
- Click Next. The Feature Rules screen opens. A third series of checks is performed to
verify that there are no issues that might prevent a successful installation based
on the features selected. These checks verify that the cluster setup is supported for
the version of SQL Server 2012 that you want to install, that there are no previous
versions of Visual Studio 2008 deployed on your server, and that Service Pack 1 for
.NET Framework 3.5 is installed. - Click Next. The Instance Confi guration screen opens. In this screen any SQL Server
instances running on the current cluster node displays. In this step you need to
provide the following information for the new install:
■ SQL Server Network Name: This is the name that your clients use to connect
to the SQL Server instance. This needs to be unique in the network. If the user
performing the install does not have the relevant permissions to create the
computer object for the name in AD, then you need to have it created and have
full control on the object granted to the cluster computer account.
■ (^) Default or Named instance: To install a default instance, select the relevant
radio button. You can have only a single default instance installed on your clus-
ter, so if this option is grayed out, it is because a default instance has already
been installed. To use a named instance, select the appropriate button, and
type in the name that you want to use for your instance. For clients to connect
to a named instance on the cluster they would need to use the NetworkName\
InstanceName. The instance name needs to be unique only to the cluster; it does
need to be unique on your network.
■ (^) Instance ID: The instance ID is used to identify the particular directories and
Registry entries used for the SQL Server instance. By default this value is the
same as the Named instance value.
■ Instance root directory: This is the directory used to install the SQL Server
binary fi les. This defaults to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server but can be
changed. This root directory must exist on local disk and cannot be confi gured
on any shared cluster drive.
- Click Next. The Cluster Resource Group screen opens. The setup wizard checks that
you have suffi cient disk space on the drives you selected for the install of the
instance root and the shared features. If you have preconfi gured your storage to a
particular cluster group prior to starting the install, you can select that group on
the Cluster Resource Group page. Otherwise leave the default group name to create
a new cluster resource group. - Click Next. The Cluster Disk Selection screen opens. The Cluster Disk Selection
screen provides you with the option to select which shared cluster disks you want
to use for the new SQL Server 2012 instance. Select the disks that you want to
use for this instance from the list of available shared disks. Figure 29-9 shows the
Cluster Disk Selection screen. - Click Next. The Cluster Network Confi guration screen opens. In this screen enter
the unique IP Address that will be used by the new SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster
