28 FIND A PURPOSE

We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief
requirements of life, when all that we need to make us
really happy is something to be enthusiastic about.
Charles Kingsley

Do you have an overall sense of purpose that benefits others as well as
yourself? Something you love doing and can put your heart and soul into?
If so, write it down on a small card and keep it with you.

Think about your values. Clarifying your values is the starting point of
finding your purpose. Values are simply what you believe to be
important.
What is most important to you in life? What do you stand for?
Where do your priorities lie? How important are, say, your health or
family relationships compared with your career, or your social and
leisure activities compared with your spiritual life?

If you’re not sure of the answers to Confidence Builder 191, go inside
and get in touch with your intuition, the part that knows. Relax your
body, calm your mind and ask, ‘What is most important to me in life?
Where do my priorities lie? What is my purpose for being here?’
Remain quiet for five or ten minutes. Listen patiently and
attentively to your inner self. Answers may not come immediately, but
they will if you’re patient.

Which, if any, of your values are you having difficulty living up to at
present? In what way(s)? What would you like to change?
