365 STEPS TO SELF-CONFIDENCE
Write down the answers to these questions:
■ What talents and skills do I have? How can I make better use of
them?
■ If I could change anything at all that would benefit others as well as
myself, what would it be?
■ Suppose I had only three more months to live. How would I most
like to spend my remaining time?
Write yourself a letter explaining why you are not already doing these
things.

Write down your ‘life mission statement’ in no more than three
sentences.
Think laterally. For instance, if you’re a hairdresser your mission is
more than cutting hair: it’s to make people feel good about themselves;
if a decorator or gardener, to create a more attractive environment; if a
teacher, to help raise the self-esteem of young people and give them the
best chance of a happy life.
Write your mission on a small card, pin it to your Wall of
Confidence and read it every day.
(Here’s mine as an example: ‘My mission is to spread peace, love and
happiness, to encourage people to live life to the full and help others to
do the same. I do this through my writing, teaching, tape programmes,
therapy and all my personal contacts.’)

Minimise your contacts with people who have no sense of purpose
and vision of their own. They will drag you down and damage your
self-esteem if you let them.
