365 STEPS TO SELF-CONFIDENCE

Work backwards from each goal in Confidence Builder 197, break it
down into small steps, and establish a time scale for the completion of
each step.

Keep your goals to yourself, unless you think another person can offer
practical help and encouragement. There is only one exception: if your
goal is to rid yourself of a bad habit, such as smoking, swearing or
losing your temper, tell everyone. People won’t be slow to remind you if
you slip up!

201

Do something every day towards your goals, and don’t forget to spend a
few minutes each day visualising yourself succeeding. This is
particularly effective last thing at night, because it gives the
subconscious something to work on while you are sleep.

202

Don’t let your self-worth depend on your achievements. People with
high self-esteem don’t feel they have to prove themselves by high
attainment. They feel good about themselves even if they don’t succeed
at everything.
There’s nothing wrong with wantingto achieve, but people who are
driven by a needto achieve rarely find true happiness even when they
do succeed. Have a go, but don’t become obsessive. Do it because you
enjoy it, learn from it and grow.
