larly consume seeds, e.g., pumpkin and sunflower. And be sure you have a
significant quantity of raw food daily.

. Using an easily digested quality protein supplement when you are training
very hard is the basic bodybuilding supplement to experiment with. If you
are on a very tight budget, make your own protein drinks by adding skim
milk powder (if you can digest it well) to milk.

. Watch out for weight-gain products. While they may provide a big boost
of calories (some of which come through protein), they can be difficult to
digest. And some of these products grossly overdo things and are more accu-
rately described as “fat-gain products.”

. Always remember that no matter how nutritious anything is, if you cannot
digest it easily and comfortably it is not going to do you much if any good,
no matter how expensive or hyped up it may be. Experiment with a small
purchase of any food supplement to test how well you digest it. Some people
find that skim milk powder stirred into fresh milk is easier to digest than
expensive protein powders. e protein supplement that is the easiest of all
for many people to digest is an increased quantity of fresh milk spread out
over the day.

. Even expensive “engineered” protein supplements can cause digestive tract
distress for some people. And despite the advertising hoopla there is abso-
lutely no guarantee that expensive cross-filtered, lactose-free whey with
digestive enzymes and whey peptides will be easily digested.

. Some of the advertising hype that goes with weight-loss products gives
the impression that the special sachets and formulae do the fat-reduction
job. What does the job is the user’s combination of desire, exercise, calorie-
reduced diet, and persistence. e meal replacement may contribute to the
dietary part of it, but that is all. e success of a fat-loss program is not
measured in terms of how much fat is lost in the short term, but by how
much is kept lost over the long term. If you depend on anything for the short
term—such as a meal replacement formula, and depriving yourself of real
food—but revert to your usual eating and a lust for real food over the long
term, then it has been all for nothing.

. When mixing powder into a liquid, especially by hand, adding the liquid
to the powder is usually more efficient than the other way around. Warm
liquids produce better mixing than cold ones.
