If you had to sum up the secrets to success in a few words, what
would you say?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the secrets to success
are quite simple: discover your dreams, write them down, and create a
plan to achieve them.
Building a successful life is a lot like building a house. Imagine you
want to build your dream house. How would y ou go about it? You could
just take a look in your bank account, pull out the money you set aside
to build, and head to your local home improvement store with a big
tr uck. Once ther e, you could wander the aisles picking up things you
th ink are necessary for a house—nails, boards, windows, doors,
sh ingles, and so on. Then you could drive the tr uck to your building site
and start assembling the materials. Since you have a general idea of
what a house looks like—foundation, walls, windows, doors, roof—it
shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Of course, y ou would never build a house that way! But sadly, most
people try to build their lives that way and end up sadly disappointed
with the r esults.
The best way to build a house is the time-honored method of design
and build. Here’s how it works:
First, you’d have to decide what sort of house you wanted. Do you
want a ten thousand-square-foot brick rancher or a four thousand-
square-foot Tudor with turrets and st one balconies? Or would you
prefer something with glass and steel? How many bedrooms would you
like? Is a home office something you desire? How about fireplaces and
decks and interesting lighting and a hot tub? If you can have anything
you want, what is on your list?
Once you know exactly what you want, then y ou draw up a detailed
