ozonolysisA reaction of alkenes

with ozone to form an ozonide. It

was once used to investigate the

structure of alkenes by hydrolysing

the ozonide to give aldehydes or ke-

tones. For instance

R 2 C:CHR′→R 2 CO + R′CHO

These could be identiÜed, and the

structure of the original alkene deter-

mined.
