Peter Robinsonis Professor of English and American Literature at the University

Situation(2005). His books of translations includeThe Greener Meadow: Selected

of Vittorio Sereni(2006).


Vincent Sherryis Distinguished Professor of English at Villanova University. His
publications includeThe Uncommon Tongue: The Poetry and Criticism of Geoffrey
Hill(1987);Ezra Pound, Wyndham Lewis, and Radical Modernism(1993);James
Joyce; ULYSSES(1995); andThe Great War and the Language of Modernism(2003).
He has edited theCambridge Companion to the Literature of the First World War
(2005). He is currently writing a biography of Ezra Pound and a book-length study
of English modernism and pan-European decadence.


Stan Smithholds the Research Chair in Literary Studies at Nottingham Trent
University. He has published two books onW. H. Auden(1985, 1997) and edited
The Cambridge Companion to W. H. Auden(2004). Other books includeInviolable
Voice(1982),Edward Thomas(1986),W. B. Yeats(1990),The Origins of Modernism
(1994), andIrish Poetry and the Construction of Modern Identity(2005). He is at
present completing a study of Early Modern English Poetry, 1890–1940 for the
Longman History of Literature in English series.


Jon Stallworthyis a Fellow of the British Academy and of the Royal Society of
Literature. Formerly Professor of English Literature at Oxford University, he has
published seven books of poetry, and is the biographer of Wilfred Owen and Louis
MacNeice. HisAnthem for Doomed Youthappeared in 2002. He has edited Owen’s
Complete Poems and Fragments(1983), Henry Reed’sCollected Poems(1991), and
several anthologies, includingThe Oxford Book of War Poetry(1988).


Claire M. Tyleeis Senior Lecturer in English Literature at Brunel University, having
formerly taught at Malaga University and the University of Leicester. She has ́
published widely on war writing by women, and is best known forThe Great War
and Women’s Consciousness(1990) andWar Plays by Women(1999). Her edited
collection of essaysIn the Open: Jewish Women’s Writing and Twentieth-Century
British Cultureis in process, and she is currently researching Holocaust literature
in Britain.


Paul Volsikis Professor of British Poetry at the University of Paris 7 Denis-
Diderot. After a Ph.D. in French literature at the University of Sussex, he wrote a
French doctoral thesis on Dylan Thomas and has since published on nineteenth-
