technical NOTES

(Project Pridr) #1

5.4 Executive Summary:
The technical evaluation of pre-fabricated and site fabricated is done as above. It
is observed that pre-fabricated cable trays are much better than site fabricated
cable trays. However, the exercise will lead an impact of pre-engineering of site
requirement and close monitoring of requirement which is quite possible by the
project engineers. Hence, it is proposed to have unit rate contract with the direct
manufacturer with the validity of one years and procurement quantity can be
confirmed in phased manner as per project progress. The strategy will benefit in
following ways:

  • Pre-fabricated cable trays are easy to assemble and strong.

  • These do not corrode

  • No require any maintenance.

  • These have high mechanical resistance, excellent chemical resistance and long
    long-lasting service life.

  • Use of cable trays makes replacement of cables much easier

  • Saves contractors time and labor on-site

  • Significantly accelerating project lead time and reducing costs.

  • Since the system comes prefabricated and pre-assembled there is also no waste
    left on-site.

  • Prefabricated tray assemblies reduce overall labor

  • A reduction of project budgets

  • A decrease in construction site waste

  • Direct cost benefit in procurement by sourcing the material from OEM,

  • Better quality of materials,

  • Avoiding of short fall of material at project site due to reduced lead time in
    procurement.

  • Avoiding of dumping of surplus material at project site,

  • The requirement based dispatches will avoid unnecessary storing of material
    at project sites.

  • No pressure on erection contractor for skilled workmen for cable tray fabrication
which will be utilized for erection work.

  • From the data base of recent project, we came to know that there is direct
saving of Rs.43.00 lacs with pre-fabricated cable trays other than intangible
    gain as listed above.
