(Project Pridr) #1

The transmitter is a continuous monitoring device and tenders “N” nos of points
for process control which gives an opportunity for fine process control during
operation. The key features of analogue transmitters as follow:

a. Analogue transmitters are costlier than mechanical switches and their cost
varies from Rs. 8,000/- to Rs. 10,000/- depending upon the manufacture.
b. The installation of these transmitters are very simple using ¼”, ½”, ¾” NBS sockets,
c. The interface of analogue transmitters with DCS is possible by using 2 core
screened cable.
d. The analogue transmitter gives analogue outputs inform of 4-20mA or
0-10V depending upon interface requirement. The transmitter is interfaced
with DCS with help of signal converter.
e. Accuracy of the transmitters is available up to 99.9% hence these are used
for precision process application in the industry.
f. Transmitter needs good skill level for installation, commissioning and maintenance.
g. Repairing of transmitters requires high skills. The accuracy of the transmitter
can be regained after repairing.
h. The calibration of the analogue transmitter is only possible under off line
conditions using a suitable tool kit.
i. The performance of the transmitter is not affected by aging factor. Hence, it
tenders higher reliability and better repeatability unless calibration is disturbed.
j. Availability of transmitter is possible either from manufacturer or from
authorized dealers only and delivery takes more than three months from the
date of order.
k. Transmit ters are useful in process control application where accuracy matters.

c) Smart Transmitters with Analogue/ Hart Bus:
The smart transmitters are advance generation of the measurement of
temperature, pressure and weight parameters are available as process
transmitters. The smart transmitter used to measure the process parameters
in efficient manner and converts the same into electronic signal in desired
output to interface with DCS system. HART (Highway Addressable Remote
Transducer) is a communication protocol which is deterministic and superimposed
on 4-20mA signal. Hart is a time proven and reliable technology. The transmitter
is a continuous monitoring device and tenders “N” nos of points for process
control which gives an opportunity for fine process control during operation.
