with DCS with help of signal converter.
e. Accuracy of the transmitters is available up to 99.9% hence these are used
for precision process application in the industry.
f. Transmitter needs good skill level for installation, commissioning and
maintenance.
g. Repairing of transmitters requires high skill. The accuracy of the transmitter
can be regained after repairing.
h. The change of span of smart transmitter is possible online through HART
bus however calibration is only possible under off line conditions using a
suitable tool kit.
i. The performance of the transmitter is not too much affected by aging
factor. Hence, it tenders higher reliability and better repeatability unless
calibration is disturbed.
j. Availability of transmitter is possible either from manufacturer or from
authorized dealers only and delivery takes more than three months from
date of order.
k. Smart transmitters are useful in process control applications where accuracy
matters.


d) Smart Transmitters with Profibus:
The smart transmitters are the advanced generation of the measurement of
temperature, pressure and weight parameters. The transmitter measures the
process parameters in efficient manner and converts the same into
electronic signal in desired interface with the DCS system. The transmitter is a
continuous monitoring device and tenders “N” nos of points for process control
which gives an opportunity for fine process control during operation. Profibus
PA enabled transmitters can be interfaced with DCS on Profibus using PA/DP
converter and have much faster communication (more than 5.00 MBPS) than
any bus technology.


a. Smart transmitters on profibus are costlier than mechanical switches and
their cost varies from Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 40,000/- depending upon manufacture.
b. The installation of transmitters is very simple using ¼”, ½”, ¾” NBS sockets,
c. The interface of analogue transmitters with DCS is possible by using profibus
cable.
d. The transmitter gives PA signal outputs which are converted in to digital
data through a coupler named PA to DP.
e. Accuracy of the transmitters is available up to 99.9% hence these are used

f. Transmitter needs good skill level for installation and commissioning.
g. Repairing of transmitters electronics is normally not possible.
