13.1 Introduction
Air slides is most efficient and practical methods of conveying bulk powder material.
Air slide blowers are for high-pressure air used for materials conveying.
Air Slide blowers used for cement process for material transfer in the system &
maintained the dust free environment in the plant.
Since the air pressure requirement is critical for conveying of material. So, air slide
blowers operating speed of fan is recommending between 90% -100% speed by
using of VFD which may resulting considerable energy saving.
Air slide blowers flow & pressure cannot be control by conventional methods as it
is running continuously on full speed.
Whereas in the VVVFD concept, we can achieve process required pressure & air
flow by controlling speed of air slide blowers through VVVFD. Resulting in power
saving.

advantages & disadvantages of system initial investment, process operation &
Energy Consumption are as below:
13.2 Conventional Method Details
Following are the Major Electro Mechanical Hardware’s required to operate air
slide fan drive:
a. Mechanical Equipment
- Air slide fan
b. Electrical Equipment
- Fan motor with IMCC HDOL/Star Delta starter Feeder of adequate rating.
On account of HDOL starter, Higher KW Motor Design. - Local Push Button station for Air Slide Fan
- System power factor 0.85, we have to add capacitor bank/APFC in the system
to Improve Power factor. - Power Loss as there is no speed control facility is made available with the
system to save energy in case of lesser capacity feeding requirement condition.
as per fan law, if we reduce blower speed by 10% then respectively - pressure will reduce by 20 %.
- power reduction by 27 %
for Air slide, pressure is critical for conveying of raw material /cement So below
90% RPM, it is not recommended to have further reduction of speed.
