2.3 Fly Ash Silo Capacity
In the present scenario, due to huge demand of PPC, many cement plants have
established fly ash silos with capacity ranging from 750 to 5000 tones. In general,
the fly ash silo capacity should have one-day storage; however, the capacity is
decided based on the location of available source of dry fly ash. If receipt of Fly ash
is round the clock in cement plant, then probably only a buffer hopper may be
needed. If not which may happen due to transport problem, non-availability of Fly
ash at lifting point especially in night shifts in power plants, the storage capacity
has to be increased at least by one day.
Holtec proposes to have a storage capacity as per the following formula;
(PPC production per annum/annual working days) x % Fly ash in product X Storage
days
If 3 days storage capacity is considered, then the capacity will be approx.5000 MT.
