technical NOTES

(Project Pridr) #1

Factors influencing choice of stack location and type:

  • Plant layout and space availability

  • Preheater height and Preheater boiler location

  • Project execution time

  • Overall process efficiency and lifetime cost

  • Structural stability and durability

  • Cost of alternatives

  • Cost impact in PH tower floor due to supporting of chimney

The choice of stack has been evaluated based on all the above factors. On basis
of combined impact of the above factors, a RCC chimney closer to RABH is
recommended as the preferred option (S. No. 1 in above table). This option reduces
the ducting length and makes the layout simpler. This option also reduces the
requirement of cantilever brackets at almost all Preheater floor levels and also
reduces the required stack height. As evident from the above table, this option
also has the least overall cost. This shall also facilitate easier and faster Preheater
and boiler erection work. For construction of RCC standalone chimney specialized
slip form agency are required.

Considering the need of specialized agency and construction period, Option 1 of
standalone steel chimney with guided RCC support can also be adopted depending
on the project needs.

Some of the major benefits of RCC standalone chimney are as follows:

  • Free space will be available near PH area for crane movement during project
    execution.

  • Space for safe erection of ducts and other equipment near PH area.

  • The ducting layout and its erection will be very easy.

  • Future maintenance will be easy nearby PH area.

  • RCC Chimney has more stability and durability compare to Steel chimney; it
is observed that some the cement plants failure of Steel chimney.
