longingforthelightthatisaboveisinorderthat
itmaypassitonward to those thatare below.
That then is the first, the supreme charac-
teristicof themanwhowould followthe Path
ofDevotion. Hemustbegininlove,asinlove
hehastofindhisend. Inorderthatthismay
be,hemustrecognisethespiritualsideofnature

heisnottobealone. Itisnotenoughthathe
shouldrecognisetheSelf,thatheshouldrecognise
the One of whom all forms are but passing
manifestations; hemustrecognisethosepassing
manifestationsmorderthathemaybeequipped
forservice. So that hewillbegin byrecognis-
ingthatoutoftheOne Eternal SourceofLife
- theSelf,that is,of all-therecomeoutthe
varioussparks thatarespiritual Intelligences in
everygradeofevolution: some,mightyspiritual
Intelligences that in past Manvantaras have
gained Their victory, and Who come out of
the Eternal Fire ready to be Lights in the
world. Thosehewillrecogniseasthesupreme
embodiments of the Spiritual Life, Thosehe
