Objective : Participants learn about sustainable and integrated animal management
Animals are part of most households and farms, and are very important to people’s
culture and life. Within a community or household animals represent:
- Food.
- Health of a family and community.
- L abour.
- A part of traditional culture and ceremony.
- Wealth.
It is important to manage animals in a sustainable manner to maximize their uses and
benefits.
To achieve good health, animals must be well cared for - If animals are healthy
and happy they will produce more meat, eggs, and offspring.
The best medicine for your animals is to manage them well and maintain their
good health - This will help to prevent any diseases or problems and improve survival
rates and size of the animals.
You can achieve good animal health by:
- Providing good quality food and clean water.
- Providing clean and comfortable shelter.
- Keeping newly born animals fed and watered in a secure animal house for a few
weeks after birth.
Planning for optimal management and integration of animals is also essential for
designing and creating a sustainable and productive Permaculture system.
Good animal systems include good:
- Shelter.
- Water source.
- Foods.
- Medicine.
