EXCITING NEW FEATURES

As well as the showstoppers, Apple used macOS
Catalina as an opportunity to tweak and fix some
of the apps we know and use every day. Photos,
for example, comes packaged with a new
look, based on the new Photos experience on
iOS 13. The app allows you to view your photos
organized by day, month, and year, clearing out
clutter like screenshots and duplicate images.
Muted Live Photos and videos now play as you
scroll, bringing your photo library to life, and
thanks to the machine learning capabilities
of your Mac, Photos recognizes who is in your
photos, and what’s happening - for example, it
knows you were celebrating a birthday.

Safari has also been given some love, with
a new start page that shows off favorites,
frequently visited sites, and suggested content
from Siri, such as sites in your browsing history.
The browser will now provide weak password
warnings when signing up for a new account,
and you can enable the Picture in Picture feature
from the tab audio button. What’s more, iCloud
logins in Safari can now be authenticated
with Touch ID in macOS Catalina.

Notes has been given a new gallery view so that
you can see your folders and Notes thumbnails
at a glance, whilst a new Block Sender option
in Mail lets you block email from a specific
person, noisy email threads can be muted, and
an unsubscribe link is offered as standard
on emails from businesses to save time and
reduce unwanted communications.

The Reminders app has been completely rebuilt
on macOS Catalina, too. The app features an
all-new design organized into four sections:
