of heat, palpitations, dizziness, Fine pulse, Reddish-Purple tongue without coating.
Use the following prescription: Dang Gui Radix Angelicae sinensis, Chi Shao Radix Paeoniae
rubrae, Dan Shen Radix Salviae miltiorrhizae, Di Gu Pi Cortex Lycii chinensis radicis, Qing
Hao Herba Artemisiae apiaceae, Chai Hu Radix Bupleuri, Dang Shen Radix Codonopsis
pilosulae, Bai Zhu Rhizoma Atractylodis macrocephalae, Huang Qi Radix Astragali
membranacei, Sang Zhi Ramulus Mori albae, Qin Jiao Radix Gentianae macrophyllae, Bie Jia
Carapax Trionycis and Wu Shao She Zaocys dhumnades.
If there is stasis of Blood add Hong Hua Flos Carthami tinctorii and Tao Ren Semen Persicae.

Painful Obstruction Syndrome: Heat-Female, Age 2.5
A 2.-year-old girl had been suffering from juvenile arthritis for 2 months before the
consultation. The attack started with a swelling of the knees which became hot and painful; the
pain then went to the neck. Since then, she had bouts of pain and swelling moving from the knee
to the neck. She had no other problem and her appetite and bowel movements were normal. Her
tongue was slightly Red.
Diagnosis This is acute Heat Painful Obstruction Syndrome characterized by Heat,
Dampness and Wind. The Heat shows in the hot joints, the Dampness in
the swelling of the joints and the Wind in the movement of the pain
from one joint to the other.
Treatment principle The treatment principle adopted was to clear Heat, resolve Dampness,
expel Wind, and remove obstructions from the channels.
Herbal treatment This little girl was treated only with herbs in the form of decoctions.
The prescription used was a variation of Bai Hu Jia Gui Zhi Tang White
Tiger Ramulus Cinnamomi Decoction:
Shi Gao Gypsum fibrosum 15 g
Zhi Mu Rhizoma Anemarrhenae asphodeloidis 6 g
Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis 3 g
Geng Mi Semen Oryzae sativae 6 g
Gui Zhi Ramulus Cinnamomi cassiae 5 g
Cang Zhu Rhizoma Atractylodis lanceae 4 g
