In addition to the above points, one can also use Du-4 Mingmen and BL-23 Shenshu to
strengthen the Fire of the Gate of Vitality because Kidney-Yang controls both lower orifices (i.e.
urethra and anus).


Dizziness


Dizziness is a common symptom after a stroke. The results in treating hemiplegia will be better
if the dizziness is tackled at the same time. Dizziness after a Wind-stroke is due to Liver-Wind.


Acupuncture


General Prescription


The main points to use are:



  • LIV-3 Taichong and BL-18 Ganshu, with reducing method, to subdue Liver-Wind.

  • BL-23 Shenshu, KI-3 Taixi and Ren-4 Guanyuan, with reinforcing method, to nourish the
    Kidneys.

  • Du-20 Baihui and G.B.-20 Fengchi to subdue internal Wind.


Stiffness and Contraction of the Muscles


In the late stages of sequelae of Wind-stroke the muscles become rigid and contracted and the
joints stiff. Eventually, the lack of movement leads to atrophy of the muscles and
malnourishment of tendons and channels. Physiotherapy is an essential part of the treatment in
such cases.


Acupuncture


Acupuncture points from Yang channels are usually chosen and moxa on needle must be used
when there is atrophy of the muscles.
