Coughing Blood


This may range from coughing up large amounts of blood to coughing sputum which is only
slightly blood-streaked.


The patterns discussed are:


Wind-Dry-Heat
Liver-Fire invading Lungs
Lung-Yin Deficiency with Empty-Heat.

Clinical Manifestations


Itchy throat, cough with blood-tinged sputum, nosebleed, dry mouth and nose, aversion to cold.


Tongue: Red on the sides and Front part, dry.


Pulse: Floating-Rapid.


Treatment Principle


Clear Heat, expel Wind, moisten the Lungs, stop bleeding.

General Prescription


LU-11 Shaoshang, L.I.-4 Hegu, BL-12 Fengmen, LU-6 Kongzui, LU-9 Taiyuan, Ren-12
Zhongwan, SP-6 Sanyinjiao. Reducing method for the first four points and reinforcing on the
others. No moxa.


Explanation



  • LU-11, L.I.-4 and BL-12 expel Wind and clear Heat.

  • LU-6, Accumulation point of the Lungs, stops bleeding from the Lung channel.
