Di Yu San
(Sanguisorba Powder)
Di Yu Radix Sanguisorbae officinalis 9 g
Qian Cao Gen Radix Rubiae cordifoliae 6 g
Huang Qin Radix Scutellariae baicalensis 6 g
Huang Lian Rhizoma Coptidis 4.5 g
Zhi Zi Fructus Gardeniae jasminoidis 6 g
Fu Ling Sclerotium Poriae cocos 6 g
Explanation
This formula is specific for bleeding from the Intestine caused by Damp-Heat.
Variations
- To harmonize Blood (stop bleeding, eliminate stasis, calm and nourish Blood) add Bai
Shao Radix Paeoniae albae and Dang Gui Radix Angelicae sinensis. No addition is
necessary to stop bleeding or move Blood as Di Yu, Qian Cao Gen and Zhi Zi stop
bleeding and Qian Cao Gen also moves Blood. - To astringe add Lian Zi Semen Nelumbinis nuciferae which also stops diarrhoea.
- To treat Qi add Sheng Ma Rhizoma Cimicifugae to raise Qi.
- If the condition is very chronic and there are signs of Spleen deficiency add Bai Zhu
Rhizoma Atractylodis macrocephalae. - If the abdominal pain is severe add Yan Hu Suo Rhizoma Corydalis yanhusuo.
Stomach and Spleen Deficiency
Clinical Manifestations
Profuse fresh blood in the stools, slight abdominal pain, pale face, exhaustion, depression, loose
and frequent stools with mucus.
