Explanation


This formula is for Damp-Heat in the Centre, with Heat being pronounced.



  • Huang Lian and Hou Po are coordinated: the former is bitter and makes Qi descend, the
    latter is pungent and opens Qi. The combination of the two drains Dampness from the
    Centre.

  • Zhi Zi and Dan Dou Chi, which form a prescription by themselves called Zhi Zi Chi
    Tang Gardenia-Soja Decoction, are specific to clear residual Heat and relieve irritability
    deriving from Heat.
