Explanation

• Ma Huang releases the Exterior, scatters Cold, restores the dispersing and descending of
  Lung-Qi and stops asthma.


• Xing Ren, Su Zi and Sang Bai Pi restore the descending of Lung-Qi by relieving
  fullness in the Middle.


• Chen Pi and Fu Ling resolve Dampness and harmonize the Centre.


• Gan Cao harmonizes.

This formula is better for asthma as it has a stronger Qi-descending effect.

Variations

• For acute asthma increase the dosage of Su Zi Fructus Perillae frutescentis and add Xuan
  Fu Hua Flos Inulae to restore the descending of Lung-Qi.


• If there is an actual invasion of exterior Wind-Cold add Fang Feng Radix Ledebouriellae
  sesloidis and Jing Jie Herba seu Flos Schizonepetae tenuifoliae.

Wind-Cold (With Sweating)

Clinical Manifestations

Slight sweating, asthma attack with breathlessness and wheezing, less noisy than previous case,
not so much chilliness, a feeling of tightness of the chest, pale face.
