Explanation

• Sang Ye, Ju Hua and Bo He release the Exterior and expel Wind-Heat. Sang Ye, in
  particular, restores the descending of Lung-Qi and stops cough.


• Xing Ren and Jie Geng restore the descending of Lung-Qi and stop cough.


• Lian Qiao and Lu Gen clear heat and stop thirst.


• Gan Cao harmonizes and resolves Fire-Poison (in case of very inflamed throat and
  inflamed-swollen tonsils).

Variations

• In case of pronounced Heat signs add Huang Qin Radix Scutellariae baicalensis and Zhi
  Mu Radix Anemarrhenae asphodeloidis.


• In case of very sore throat and hoarse voice add She Gan Rhizoma Belamcandae
  chinensis and Chi Shao Radix Paeoniae rubrae.


• If Heat has begun to injure the Lung fluids causing dry mouth and throat add Nan Sha
