Ju Hua Flos Chrysanthemi morifolii 9 g
Bai Shao Radix Paeoniae albae 9 g
Sheng Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae 15 g
Fu Shen Sclerotium Poriae cocos pararadicis 9 g
Chuan Bei Mu Bulbus Fritillariae cirrhosae 12 g
Zhu Ru Caulis Bambusae in Taeniis 15 g
Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis 2.5 g

Explanation



  • Ling Yang Jiao and Gou Teng subdue Liver-Yang and Liver-Wind. These are the
    emperor herbs in the prescription.

  • Sang Ye and Ju Hua are the minister herbs to assist the first two to subdue Liver-Yang.

  • Sheng Di and Bai Shao are the assistant herbs to nourish Yin, as Liver-Yang derives
    from deficiency of Liver-Yin or Liver-Blood.

  • Bei Mu and Zhu Ru are also assistant herbs and are included here to resolve any
    Phlegm-Heat that might arise from Liver-Fire burning the fluids.

  • Fu Shen calms the Mind.

  • Gan Cao harmonizes.


If Liver-Yang rising stems from Liver-Blood deficiency, the Si Wu Tang (Four Substances
Decoction) could be added to any of the above prescriptions. If it stems from Liver-Yin
deficiency, Yi Guan Jian One Linking Decoction could be added. If it stems from Kidney-Yin
deficiency, Liu Wei Di Huang Wan Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill or Zuo Gui Wan Restoring
the Left [Kidney] Pill could be added.
