Explanation
This formula is used in preference to the previous one if symptoms and signs of Heat are more
pronounced and the tongue is definitely Red with a thick-yellow coating.
- Huang Lian clears Heart-Fire and clams the Mind.
- All the other herbs constitute Wen Dan Tang Warming the Gall-Bladder Decoction
which resolves Phlegm-Heat and calms the Mind.
Variations
These formulae have a powerful effect in calming the Mind and promoting sleep and may need
little variation or addition.
- To enhance the sleep-promoting effect add Ye Jiao Teng Caulis Polygoni multiflori and
Yuan Zhi Radix Polygalae tenuifoliae. - If there are symptoms of retention of food add Shen Qu Massa Fermentata Medicinalis
and Lai Fu Zi Semen Raphani sativi.
