Explanation
This tablet specifically clears Stomach-Heat deriving from stagnation of Qi. Stagnant Qi over a
long period of time easily turns into Heat: the correct treatment principle in this case is not to
drain Fire, but to clear Heat with bitter herbs (such as Huang Lian, Huang Qin and Huang Bo
here) and open and move Qi with pungent herbs (such as Wu Zhu Yu and Mu Xiang).
The main manifestation of such pattern would be a burning epigastric pain with distension, a
tongue with Red sides and a yellow coating.

Explanation
This remedy, already explained above under "Stomach-Heat", is also suitable for epigastric pain
from Stomach-Fire.

Stomach Phlegm-Fire
Clinical Manifestations
Any of the symptoms and signs of Stomach-Fire can occur in Stomach Phlegm-Fire as well. In
addition, there may be the following clinical manifestations: a feeling of oppression of the
epigastrium, dry mouth but no desire to drink, mucus in the stools, nausea, vomiting, mental
restlessness, in severe cases manic behaviour or manic-depression and insomnia.
