- If there is bleeding from the alimentary tract (either vomiting of blood or blood in the
stools) add San Qi Radix Notoginseng. In particular, if there is vomiting of blood add Niu
Xi Radix Achyranthis bidentatae seu Cyathulae to attract Blood downwards. - If there is vomiting of blood, acidity and sour regurgitation add Bai Ji Rhizoma Bletillae
striatae and Wu Zei Gu Os Sepiae. These two herbs reduce secretions of stomach-acids
and protect the stomach mucosa in case of ulcers.

Explanation
- Dang Gui, Chuan Xiong and E Jiao nourish and move Blood.
- Bai Shao, Gou Qi Zi, Wu Wei Zi and Suan Zao Ren pacify the Liver and therefore
regulate Liver-Blood. Bai Shao also stops pain. - Fu Ling and Chen Pi counteract the "stickiness" of some of the above herbs.
- Mu Xiang moves Qi in order to move Blood.
- Sheng Jiang and Da Zao harmonize.
