Explanation


This pill is for Stomach-Fire rather than Stomach-Heat. It drains Stomach-Fire by moving
downwards (with Da Huang) and it is used for symptoms of Fire-Poison in the head deriving
from Stomach-Fire. These are: mouth ulcers, parotitis, fever, headache, swollen-red-painful
gums, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis, etc.


This remedy can be used for Stomach-Fire headaches due to the presence of several herbs which
relieve headaches: these are Chuan Xiong, Jing Jie, Fang Feng, Ju Hua, Bai Zhi, Man Jing Zi and
Bo He.


Before using this pill it is essential that one understands its nature and effect clearly. First of all,
it moves downwards and it should only be used if the tongue is Red and has a thick-yellow and
dry coating. Secondly, it should be stopped if diarrhoea occurs. Thirdly, it is only for acute
