Ba Zhen Tang
(Eight Precious Decoction)


Dang Gui Radix Angelicae sinensis 10 g
Chuan Xiong Radix Ligustici wallichii 5 g
Bai Shao Radix Paeoniae albae 8 g
Shu Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae praeparata 15 g
Ren Shen Radix Ginseng 3 g
Bai Zhu Rhizoma Atractylodis macrocephalae 10 g
Fu Ling Sclerotium Poriae cocos 8 g
Zhi Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis praeparata 5 g

Explanation



  • The first four herbs make the Si Wu Tang Four Substances Decoction which nourishes
    Blood, and the last four make the Si Jun Zi Tang Four Gentlemen Decoction which
    tonifies Qi.


Shi Quan Da Bu Tang
(Ten Complete Great Tonification Decoction)


Ba Zhen Tang Eight Precious Decoction plus:
Huang Qi Radix Astragali membranacei 8 g
Rou Gui Cortex Cinnamomi cassiae 4 g

Explanation



  • Ba Zhen Tang tonifies Qi and nourishes Blood.

  • Huang Qi tonifies and raises Qi.

  • Rou Gui warms the Yang and tonifies the Original Qi.


This prescription is better indicated for headaches as it contains Huang Qi Radix Astragali
membranacei which tonifies and raises Qi. However, since it contains Rou Gui Cortex
Cinnamomi cassiae which is very hot, it is only indicated if there are manifestations of internal
Cold.
