specifically, and Chwast generally, as influencing his own distinctive style
of design.
Chwast used the upper- and lowercase alphabet on the Artone
counter display box and eventually applied it to other projects, including
posters and book covers. Strick was not troubled that his logo was being
reused as a commercial alphabet because it furthered his product’s identity.
By the 1970 s the popularity of the Artone alphabet was on the wane, but it
continues to be emblematic of an era of graphic design when eclecticism
was at its peak.
