19.2 Constructions involving the subjunctive


Again the rule can be broken if the sense demands:
Preterite/present subjunctive: Ayer llevé el coche al garaje para que lo
reparen. (see 43.5)
Yesterday I took the car to the garage so that they can repair it. (it has not
been repaired yet)
Present/past subjunctive: Me extraña que nunca lo hiciera.
I’m surprised he/she never did it.

Future/present subjunctive: Será
imposible que nos entiendan.

Conditional/past subjunctive: Sería

Ledigo a usted que hablaré con él

I tell you that I will speak to him providing

Preterite/conditional/past subjunctive:
Ledije a usted quehablaría con él
siempre y cuando usted meapoyara.

Future/present subjunctive: To lo diréa
condición de que guardes el secreto.
I’ll tell you on condition that you keep the
secret.

Conditional/past subjunctive: Te lodiría
a condición de que guardaras el
secreto. (see 51.3)
I would tell you on condition that you
kept the secret.
