22.1Ser


Ser is used:

(a) With a noun or pronoun:

Soy arquitecto. (see 34.6)
I am an architect.

Ayer fue un día muy frío.
Yesterday it was a very cold day.

¿Es éste su pasaporte? (see 35.3)
Is this your passport?
¡Es algo muy insólito! (see 36.7)
It’s something very unusual.

(b) With an infinitive:

Eso es sufrir. That’s suffering.
(c) With a clause:

La dificultad es que no tenemos dinero.
The difficulty is that we have no money.

Note also es que...

Es que se me cayó. (see 43.2)
(The fact is that) I dropped it.

(d) With adverbs of place when the subject is a noun denoting an event:

¿Dónde será la reunión? (see 39.2)
Where will the meeting be?

(e) With a past participle to form the passive
