47.1.3 Necesitar+ subjunctive


This construction is used when the subject of the main verb, is different from that of
the complement verb, as in (Yo) necesito que (tú) me aconsejes‘I need you to advise
me’. Here are some further examples:
Necesitamos que estéis aquí antes de la cena.
We need you to be here before dinner.
Necesitaba que me lo dijeras.
I needed you to tell me that.
Carlos necesitaba que sus padres lo supieran.
Carlos needed his parents to know it.
No necesito que me lo digas.
I don’t need you to tell me.

47.1.4 Necesitar+ noun or noun phrase


Necesita una gran suma de dinero.
He/she needs a large sum of money.
Necesito mi diccionario.
I need my dictionary.
Dijo que no necesitaba ayuda.
He/she said he/she didn’t need help.

47.1.5 Pronoun +necesitar/Necesitar+ pronoun


Te necesito.
I need you.
No necesitamos nada.
We don’t need anything.
Parece que tu padre necesita algo.
It seems your father needs something.

47.1.6 Necesitar de+ noun/pronoun


This construction is infrequent and belongs to a formal register.

Necesita de usted. He/she needs you.
Necesitamos de ese préstamo. We need that loan.
