Aunque, ‘though’, ‘although’, ‘even though’, will be followed by an indicative verb
when the information it introduces is a fact, usually presented as new to the listener,
rather than a possibility or something hypothetical, as in 52.1.4 below. Aunque is used
in formal and informal contexts, in spoken as well as written Spanish. It is usually
placed at the beginning of the sentence, but it can also go between the two contrasting
ideas. Compare its use in these examples with the constructions in 52.1.1 and

52.1.4 Aunque+ subjunctive
When the information introduced by aunque is not a fact but a possibility or
something hypothetical, the verb following aunque will be in the subjunctive. In this
context, the word aunque is equivalent to the English expression ‘even if’.Aunque llueva iremos.
Even if it rains we’ll go.Iremos aunque llueva.
We’ll go even if it rains.Aunque sea difícil lo haré.
