72.3.3 Present tense for fixed future events


To refer to future events which are fixed, such as a national holiday, someone’s
anniversary or birthday, etc. we use the present.
El viernes 8 es festivo.
Friday the 8th is a holiday.
Nuestro aniversario es el próximo mes.
Our anniversary is next month.
¿Cuándo es el cumpleaños de mamá?
When is mother’s birthday?
Es el miércoles que viene.
It’s this coming Wednesday.

72.4 Expressing promises


Promises are normally expressed using the future tense.

¿Me prometes que lo harás?
Do you promise me you’ll do it?
Te prometo que lo haré.
I promise I will do it.
Se lo traeré mañana sin falta.
I will bring it to you tomorrow without fail.
No lo volveremos a hacer.
We will not do it again.

72.5 Expressing possibility, probability or uncertainty with regard


to something in the future


Possibility, probability or uncertainty in relation to future actions or states may be
expressed with the following constructions (see also 48 ).

72.5.1 Present or future indicative


A lo mejor vamos/iremos a Cuba.
Perhaps we’ll go to Cuba.
A lo mejor te arrepientes/arrepentirás.
Perhaps you’ll regret it.
