Triste, cerró la puerta. He/she closed the door sadly.
Paraphrases such as de forma+ (f.) adjective, de manera+ (f.) adjective, de modo+
(m.) adjective, de carácter+ (m.) adjective are also extensively used:
Lo criticó de forma muy dura.
He/she criticized it very harshly.

¿No lo puedes arreglar de modo más informal?
Can’t you arrange it more informally?

14.2 Other adverbs


There are a large number of adverbs in Spanish which do not have the ending -mente,
and which indeed are not obviously related to adjectives at all.

Examples are:

(a) Adverbs of manner

así‘thus’
bien‘well’
deprisa‘quickly’
despacio‘slowly’
mal‘badly’
(b) Adverbs of place (see 39.3)
acá‘here’
(a)dentro‘inside’
(a)fuera‘outside’
ahí‘there’
allá‘yonder’
allí‘there’
aquí‘here’
(c) Adverbs of time
ahora‘now’
antes‘before’
después‘then’, ‘after(wards)’
entonces‘then’
todavía‘still’
ya‘already’, ‘now’
