Coordinate Grid Matching

Coordinate
Grid Matching

Here’s the translation: If cell D8 is empty, then display nothing in the
merged cells B10:D11. However, if D8 contains a question mark, compare
the value in A8 with what the student has entered in B8. If they are the
same, display “Very Good!” If they are different, display “Try Again.”. Do
nothing, however, until F9 is pressed to allow the necessary calculations.

  1. Now you will do some conditional formatting on the merged cells to add
color, depending on the cell value.

a. Highlight cells B10:D11. From the Format drop down menu, select
Conditional Formatting. In the box containing the word “between”, click
on the down arrow and select “equal to”.

b. In the empty box to the right, type in the following words:
Very Good!
You need to make sure that what you type here is identical to what you
typed in the formula in Step 11. Click on the box marked Format, then
the Patterns tab. Click on a bright green, then click OK to exit.

c. Back on the Conditional Formatting dialog box, click on the box marked
Add>>. You now have a Condition 1, which you have already config-
ured, and a Condition 2, which needs to be filled in. Change “between”
to “equal to”, just like you did before.
In the empty box, type in the following words:
Try Again.

d. Click on the Format box, and then Patterns. Click on a light pink color,
and then click OK to exit. Click OK again to close the Conditional For-
matting box.
