c. Click on the Protection tab. Remove the check mark next to the word
Locked. Now click OK to exit.


  1. Apply conditional formatting to the range.
    The twelve cells in the rectangle should still be selected and grayed out. If
    not, select them again.


a. From the drop down menus at the top of the page, click on Format and
then Conditional Formatting. A dialog box will appear. The second box
from the left currently says “between”. Click on the down arrow and se-
lect “equal to” from the list.

b. In the large empty box at the top right, type in the letter X. Click on the
box labeled Format and then click on the Font tab in the dialog box that
appears. Under Color, click on the down arrow and select brown. On the
Borders tab, click on the Color drop down menu, and select White from
the lower right hand corner, and then click on Outline under Preset.
Now click on the Patterns tab and again select brown. Click OK twice to
exit.
