this case, you want Excel to count the Xs for you. This particular func-
tion is not case sensitive, so it will count both upper and lower case let-
ters.
b. Click on cell H13, and copy the formula down by pressing Ctrl+D. Both
cells should now contain zeros. Type Xs into the outlined cells to see
how the numbers change.
- Use AutoSum to sum the number of Xs.
Click on cell H14, and then click on the Greek letter sigma (∑) on the tool-
bar at the top of the page. This is the SUM function. Excel should highlight
cells H12 and H13, and display =SUM(H12:13). This is the formula you
want, so press the Enter key. For now, you are through with these three
cells, but you will come back to them later to hide the cell display.
