use to perform a health assessment. Arrange
the instruments according to the order in
which they will be used. Write a definition of

nical ability to use each instrument and
technique. Practice using the instruments on a
partner until you feel confident. Reflect on:

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE USING CRITICAL
THINKING SKILLS
Use the following expanded scenario from
Chapter 25 in your textbook to answer the
questions below.
Scenario:Billy Collins, a 9-year-old with a his-
tory of allergies, including an allergy to insect
stings, is spending a week at summer camp. He
suddenly reports to the camp counselor that he
was just stung by a bee. The counselor rushes
Billy to the nearest emergency health center
after helping him self-inject epinephrine. He
presents with itching and hives, difficulty
breathing, nausea, and palpitations. When his
parents arrive, they ask you what more they
can do, if anything, to prevent this situation
from occurring in the future.

1.What type of health assessments would the
nurse caring for Billy conduct?

2.What would be a successful outcome for Billy
and his family?

3.What intellectual, technical, interpersonal,
and/or ethical/legal competencies are most
likely to bring about the desired outcome?

4.What resources might be helpful for this
family?
