  1. Packers, 6-1 PREVIOUS: 1
The winning streak is at six entering Thursday night’s showdown
with the Cardinals in Arizona. The Packers could be missing wide
receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard (reserve/covid-19 list).

  2. Buccaneers, 6-1 PREVIOUS: 2
The Week 3 loss to the Rams spared the Bucs the pressure of
chasing a p erfect season. But they certainly look capable of
    becoming a b ack-to-back Super Bowl winner.

  3. Cardinals, 7-0 PREVIOUS: 3
If the Cardinals truly are the NFC’s — and perhaps the NFL’s — top
team, they’ll have their chance to prove it Thursday night against
    the Packers.

  4. Rams, 6-1 PREVIOUS: 4
The Rams allowed the Lions to hang around well into the fourth
quarter, but it always felt as though they would win. They have
another gimme, the Texans, before things get serious again.

  5. Titans, 5-2 PREVIOUS: 7
The Titans have beaten both participants in last season’s AFC title
game (Bills, Chiefs) in consecutive weeks. How in the world did
this team lose to the Jets?

  6. Cowboys, 5-1 PREVIOUS: 6
The Cowboys are in complete control of the NFC East; the biggest
issue is Dak Prescott’s calf injury. The immediate post-bye
schedule: the Vikings, Broncos and Falcons.

  7. Bengals, 5-2 PREVIOUS: 9
First-place Bengals? Who knew? But this team is absolutely for
real. The victor y at Baltimore was thorough and convincing. Joe
Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase were terrific. The defense did its part.

  8. Bills, 4-2 PREVIOUS: 8
The Bills, coming off their bye week, have a favorable upcoming
schedule, with games against the Dolphins, Jaguars and Jets.

  9. Saints, 4-2 PREVIOUS: 10
The Saints weren’t explosive on offense Monday night in Seattle,
but they have their first two-game winning steak of the season.

  10. Ravens, 5-2 PREVIOUS: 5
The Ravens have relied too much on Lamar Jackson providing
superhuman efforts and pulling out improbable wins. It caught up
to them Sunday against the Bengals.

  11. Browns, 4-3 PREVIOUS: 12
The damage to Ba ker Mayfield’s (non-throwing) left shoulder is
worrisome. How effective will he be if and when he returns?

  12. Raiders, 5-2 PREVIOUS: 15
Rich Bisaccia deserves plenty of credit because the team wasn’t
playing all that well immediately before Jon Gruden’s exit.
Perhaps the Raiders still can be a factor in the wide-open AFC.

  13. Chargers, 4-2 PREVIOUS: 13
The Charge rs’ la ck of competitiveness in the lopsided pre-bye loss
at Baltimore raised serious questions. Sunday’s game at home
against the Patriots could be telling.

  14. Vikings, 3-3 PREVIOUS: 14
Can the Vikings sustain their pre-bye momentum with the
Cowboys, Ravens, Chargers and Packers coming up?

  15. Falcons, 3-3 PREVIOUS: 19
The Falcons quietly have repaired their season with victories over
the Jets and Dolphins sandwic hed around their bye week.

  16. Steelers, 3-3 PREVIOUS: 16
The St eelers’ season still has possibilities. The next few weeks
    could be telling.
    17. Patriots, 3-4 PREVIOUS: 20
The Patriots are 2-0 against the Jets — and 1-4 against everyone
else. Now the challenge is to win two games in a row.
    18. Colts, 3-4 PREVIOUS: 24
Things are looking up for Carson Wentz and the Colts. They don’t
seem to be quite on the level of the Titans, but they are
Tennessee’s only viable competition in the division race.
    19. Chiefs, 3-4 PREVIOUS: 11
This isn’t a great team playing poorly. It’s simply not a very good
team. The Chiefs can’t even keep a game close. There’s still time
to turn this around, but it does not look good right now.
    20. 49ers, 2-4 PREVIOUS: 17
This is beginning to get ugly, with four straight losses following a 2-
0 start. Trey Lance could return to practice this week, but Jimmy
Garoppolo remains the starter... for now.
    21. Bears, 3-4 PREVIOUS: 18
The Bears had no chance in Sunday’s loss at Tampa Bay. They
should stick with rookie Justin Fields unless his long-term
    development is being hindered.
    22. Giants, 2-5 PREVIOUS: 28
The Giants managed to upend the Panther s on Sunday, and now
they c an feel a little better about themselves for a f ew days.
    23. Eagles, 2-5 PREVIOUS: 21
Jalen Hurts played fine in the defeat at Las Vegas, but the loss was
the Eagles’ fifth in their past six games. At least the Lions are up
next. That should provide a temporary reprieve.
    24. Panthers, 3-4 PREVIOUS: 22
The Panthers, with four straight losses, simply are not the same
team without Christian McCaffrey. Their desperation apparently
led to a renewed push to try to trade for Deshaun Watson.
    25. Broncos, 3-4 PREVIOUS: 23
Remember when the Broncos were 3-0? After an 0-4 skid, no one
else does, either. Coach Vic Fangio’s job security is an issue.
    26. Seahawks, 2-5 PREVIOUS: 25
Another late-game chance to get a win slipped from the
Seahawks’ grasp Monday night. This is what it looks like when an
indispensable player such as Russell Wilson is not available.
    27. Washington, 2-5 PREVIOUS: 26
Score the touchdown, then do the Lambeau leap. But nothing is
ever that simple with this once-again-irrelevant team.
    28. Jaguars, 1-5 PREV IOUS: 29
Just when the Jaguars were flourishing, with the victory over th e
Dolphins in London to halt their 20-game losing streak, along
came their bye week to interrupt all that positive energy.
    29. Jets, 1-5 PREVIOUS: 27
The Jets gave up 54 points and lost Zach Wilson (and the game) at
New England. Monday’s trade for Joe Flacco does not seem like a
    cure-all.
    30. Dolphins, 1-6 PREVIOUS: 30
If they’re going to trade for Watson, it had better be with next
    season — a nd beyond — i n mind.
    31. Texans, 1-6 PREVIOUS: 31
The o nly rea son to pay any attention to the Texans is their
decision on whether to trade Watson.
    32. Lions, 0-7 PREVIOUS: 32
The Lions did manage to have a fourth-quarter lead over the Rams
    before succumbing.
