are used in recessed luminaires, the upward
light emitted by the lamp is redirected in a
downward direction by a secondary reflector.
White-bowllamps, also used for indirect
lighting, have a translucent white coating on
the inner surface of the bulb bowl, which
reduces the direct filament glare. As with
silver-bowl lamps, white-bowl lamps require
additional control elements.
Directional Sources
Directionalsources are lamps that are com-
plete optical systems; they include a source
(the filament), a reflector, and sometimes a
lens or a filament shield. Lamps in this cate-
gory are reflector (R),aluminumreflector
(AR), multifacetedmirror-reflector (MR), and
parabolicaluminizedreflector (PAR). These
directional sources are available in a wide
range of wattages and beam-spreads, as
indicated in table 2 in the Appendix.
