Facial expressions: Women use lively and animated facial expressions
demonstrating interest, vitality, and energy. Men’s expressions are more
controlled reflecting their dominance, restraint, and power.
Clothing: In addition to protecting you from the elements, your choice
of clothing signals what you want to reveal about yourself. In response,
people make assumptions about you based on what you wear. Clothes
that draw attention to your sexuality indicate that you’re prepared to be
noticed. Low-slung or tight jeans draw the eye to the wearer’s genitalia
whereas tight-fitting tops enhance the chest.
Showing That You’re Free ...........................................................................
Having established that you’re interested in the other person, it’s time for
you to show that you’re available. Some of the gestures you use are studied
and deliberate. Others are completely unconscious. They all have the effect
of showing that you’re in place and ready to go.
Although men and women use the same basic preening gestures like touching
their hair, smoothing their clothes, pointing their bodies in the other’s direc-
tion, and increasing eye contact, some subtle differences are worth noting.
Unlike most of the mammal population where the males are in charge of
sexual advertising, in the world of humans, women usually take the lead.
They use clothes, hairstyles, make-up, and fragrance to advertise their femi-
ninity. Whether a conscious choice or not, an interested and available woman
sends out signals designed to lure a man into her fold.
Courting gestures of women .............................................................
The list of female sexual behaviours is long and moves right down her body
from her head to the tips of her toes.
Tossing your head and flicking your hair
When a woman sees a man she finds attractive she unconsciously tosses her
head or runs her fingers through her hair. Whether her hair is long or short
the gesture is a subtle way of showing that she cares about her appearance
and is making an effort to look appealing.
An added benefit of this movement is that it exposes her soft underarm, a
highly sensual part of a woman’s body that most men find irresistible (see
Figure 13-1).
